This program was designed for users who wish to either run a web server from home, or to access home pc from a remote location, but cannot do so because of a dynamic IP address. DyIP monitors IP changes and e-mails any designated address when such change is detected.
You have setup your new broadband connection and are now browsing the web and njoying the lightning-fast download/upload speeds. Now you want to access your computer remotely from your office. There are a number of different clients, which will be more than happy to do the job for you - PC Anywhere, Remote Desktop, VNC to name a few. You try them out and they work - how wonderful. But after a few days (or hours), you are no longer able to login to your computer remotely. Well, what you may not have known is that your internet service provider most likely uses dynamic IP address setup (which most of them do), and your IP changes every so often. So, once you get a new IP address, you need to update your remote access client. This is where DyIP comes into play.
But why should you use DyIP instead of free dynamic DNS web service providers? Simply because you will only have a small utility (which takes up almost no resources) running in your system tray, you do not have to register for any account on the web, set up any complicated steps, deal with any adware/spyware that may be bundled into those free clients or any of the other non-sense. You just want to be able to access your computer right? DyIP is a small utility that sits in your system tray and monitors your external IP address from the outside of your network.
Once the IP address change is detected, DyIP will e-mail you the new IP at e-mail address you provide. It doesn't get any simpler than that. It does not matter if you use a router, or have a complicated network. DyIP uses the same port as used by web pages, which get displayed on your computer, and a standard SMTP e-mail connection, which you probably alredy have setup. Once you see how easy and nicely this little program works you will not want to use anything else.
