The displacement maps for Photoshop can be used to create superb glass and metallic effects. A simple way to do this is to apply a basic colorful gradient and then blur and then apply the glass filter and displacement map. Minor adjustments to the smoothing or scaling can create stunning glass effects in seconds.

Again, wonderful in combination with text or even a very basic colorful image.
The displacement maps are available for the mac but the displacements at present have no resource information and cannot be seen directly in the displace filter command (though this may no longer be an issue with OS X and CS2)
