Snapper reads the directory of a disk which is then saved as a "snapshot", so that later you can compare it with a new snapshot of the disk and see what has changed. The results are easy to see with colour-coded highlighting in a familiar Explorer-style interface.
Snapshots don't have to be created from the same source - you can compare a CD-ROM with a server volume, a Zip disk with your hard-disk, or compare two different diskettes (without the need for two diskette drives). You don't need to snapshot a whole disk either, you just choose a sub-folder and decide whether or not you want sub-folders too. And two snapshots don't need to be created from the same starting directory, just tell Snapper where the "root" of the comparison should begin.
When you have two snapshots open, Snapper will have compared the time, date, size, and attributes of every file in every folder, checked for missing files too, and will highlight every folder where it finds a difference. It is easy to navigate through the colour-coded directories and find out what changed, where, and when. As you click folder names in one snapshot, the other snapshot changes to show you the same folder; and when you scroll down the list of filenames, the other snapshot's file list scrolls too.
The results from any comparison can then be sent to a printer or exported to a file, with the flexibility to add your own custom fields to produce instant batch files or scripts.
You can tell Snapper to ignore certain file properties when comparing snapshots, such as the Archive flag, or time differences of less than one hour (for example). And to simplify things further, Snapper can show you just those files that are new, or have changed, or are common to both snapshots.
Snapper creates compares snapshots extremely fast, and can handle drives/volumes with many tens of thousands of directory entries. Trial Version allows 15 snapshots of unrestricted size to be created, then becomes limited to 1024 until registered.
