Niall's Real Time Synth is a pretty simplistic realtime synth meant for drone-y kind of sounds (no MIDI input). This one uses the cross-platform libraries wxWindows and PortAudio, so it should be possible to re-compile it on MacOS and Linux.
This is basically a realtime synth meant to make drone-type noises. It doesn't respond to MIDI, and the oscillator frequencies don't correspond to note pitches (oh, and it uses MME to output sound).
It's probably not particularly useful, but you can get some nice (IMO) sounds out of it.
Anyway, you've got the code (MSVC++ v5) in this zip file, so you can play about with it/modify it in any way you want. It's written entirely using cross-platform libraries, so you should be able to compile it on other platforms if you want.
I used wxWindows (http://www.wxwindows.org) to handle all GUI-related stuff, and PortAudio (http://www.portaudio.com) to deal with the audio side of things. Obviously, you will need them to compile the code.
Oh, and the .manifest file is there so that Windows XP uses it's visual themes instead of the boring old-fashioned boxes it used to use for controls (on a side note, you can use this file to 'prettify' any older software you've got which doesn't support xp themes, just stick it in the same folder as the executable, and re-name it the same as the executable).
