The Future - XMLFoundation
The future is in a nanosecond, but even that is in the past now. If you rest on past deeds then you have no future. Some things decay with time, and some things only get better with time. You can begin to build on the past, when you know that the future is clear. XMLFoundation is the future. Many of you saw the XMLFoundation get better utilities with the 5Loaves release, but the next release comes with indexing, referencing, model navigation, caching, and data validation improvements - and best of all it will be released at the same time as the published user and reference manual. The foundation will always be free, and always open source. - and it only gets better from here.
The Need for Objects from XML
The purpose of the XMLFoundation is to obtain data marked up in XML creates the need for Application Layer tools to easily and efficiently work with XML data. The brute force approach is to parse the XML into a tree, and traverse the tree to gather the data required by application/object variables. This approach causes volumes of “simple” source code to move data from XML into Structured Objects, a poor approach with respect to implementation time and long term maintenance.
Alternatively, the OO approach generalizes this process into reusable functionality that enables objects to serialize to and from XML directly. Many implementations along this thought process have been published. It's clear that software developers of every language have a similar need. They must either: A)Write their own Object-XML tools, B)Find some production quality framework ready to use or C)Use brute force and hire a team of maintenance programmers.
