Ectool is an utility to help with the management of playing correspondence or email chess. ECTool 7.01 is the current version.

It runs under Windows 98, 95, NT, 2k and XP.

ECTool features
  • Keep a database of games in progress and already completed, displaying the games in tabular form and showing them in a graphical Bookup (tm) style chess board.
  • The game list shows state icons regarding in which game is your turn to play, days after last change etc.
  • Import/export games to and from PGN format. It also allows the updating of games being played from games received in email messages and pasted to the clipboard.
  • Automatic creation of messages. In the various formats usually used in correspondence chess, in PGN format, in a simple text format, numeric (the official format of the ICCF - The International Correspondence Chess Federation), with the option of editing the message created, adding text and a signature, carbon copies etc.
  • Sends the resulting messages via SMTP protocol, the most widespread of the internet protocols used for sending mail (despite the efforts of AOL) from the program itself without the necessity of installing MAPI or any other external program. Anyway, Pegasus (tm) users, will be able to send their mail trough this powerful email client easily.
  • Receives messages through POP3 protocol, the most widely used of the internet email protocols. User can make selective download, leaving not chess related messages on server. The incoming mail is scanned and if new moves are found the related games are updated automatically! (from version 6.0
  • Keeps track of messages sent and received, with a single (and secure) message database.
  • Address book incorporated, very single and practical
  • Currently available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Catalan and Portuguese languages.
  • The program can analyze positions and games, working in colaboration with Rebel Engines.
