The localization manager detects what language and country the user is expected to use within your application. It's based on the browser settings of the client machine that sent the HTTP requests.

Our system allows you to handle the language selection of your website including automatic detection. You will be able to store the language in the session and cookie to use while browsing and when the user comes back.

Our class can also detect the country, like for the language, based on the machine settings.

The default language choice problem

It's always better to provide a first good impression for your users to have your website loaded in their language by default. It's really useful also because in some case, it's difficult to make a choice for the default language. For example in Belgium we have 3 national languages, but 2 are the most used. It's Dutch and French.

The first half part of Belgium use Dutch and the second part use French. A very little part is using German as well. Belgium is a very little country, and it's very common to work nationally, so in most cases, your website has to be in at least 2 languages.

If a company sells products that are available to both North and South, it should select a language as the default that will be used for the user's first visit (the language selection will be stored later in a cookie).

The most common choice is Dutch, but some people can be angry with that. To make everybody happy, default language detection is a power-marketing tool. You don't make the choice: it's the user settings that make it for you!

The language tracking problem

It's good to detect the good language, but you will face the problem to track it across sessions. Our localization manager will handle that for you. All you have to do is to call GetActiveLanguage to display proper data. It will first check on the session if the language have been set, if yes it return it.

If not on the session, it will try on the cookie (to check if it's a returning user), if yes, it will store the language setting on the session for a later user and return it. If not on the session or in a cookie, it's a first visit, so it will detect the language, store it on both the session and cookie then return it.

Another cool feature of our Localization Manager is its hability to handle "numbered" languages instead of named languages. This will enable big systems like website generator to handle dynamically website languages settings.

Personalized content

Of course you can provide different content based on the language, but you don't have to limit the personalisation to text translations. For example you can display personalized shipping information based on the destination country, of the used currency or time, and whatever you can imagine. Of course you can let the user change the country setting exactly like the language.
